From Feb. 9 to Feb. 11, the Meijer State Games of Michigan, Marquette Winter Games returned for the third year, drawing in athletes from across the state to compete in various competitions.

The Meijer State Games of Michigan is a multi-sport Olympic-style sports festival held annually for Michigan residents. Organized by the West Michigan Sports Commission, the Winter Games provide an opportunity for athletes of all ages and skill levels to showcase their talents in a wide range of sports.

The Opening Ceremony at Marquette Mountain Resort on Friday evening marked the official start of the Winter Games as Olympian and Greco-Roman Wrestler Andy Bisek lit the flame, symbolizing the start of the games.

Bisek also addressed the athletes before the start of the rail jam event, sharing his inspiring journey in the world of sports, emphasizing the values of perseverance, dedication, and sportsmanship.

Throughout the weekend, participants were able to compete in events such as skiing, snowboarding, archery, shooting sports, bowling, curling, sled hockey, luge, and wrestling, among others. Medals were handed out to all the winners of each respected event throughout the weekend.

The Meijer State Games of Michigan, Marquette Winter Games will continue Feb. 16 through Feb. 18, with Figure Skating at the Berry Events Center.
