About us

The North Wind is an independent student publication serving the Northern Michigan University community. It is partially funded by the Student Activity Fee. The North Wind digital paper is published daily during the fall and winter semesters except on university holidays and during exam weeks. The North Wind Board of Directors is composed of representatives of the student body, faculty, administration and area media.

Both NMU golf teams rack up sixth place finishes in Walsh Invitational

The NMU Men’s and Women’s Golf teams traveled down to Glenmoor Country Club in Canton, Ohio for the Walsh Invitational this past weekend. In the events hosted by Walsh University, the men came in sixth place out of 11 teams and the women took sixth place out of 12 teams.

On the men’s side, junior Carter Mason led the Wildcats with a tie for 15th place and a final score of 220. Junior Nick Rowley was up next for NMU, finishing with a score of 231 and tied for 31st. A pair of freshman Blake Ramirez and Caden Dunn finished in 37th and 38th respectively with scores of 232 and 234. Rounding out the placing for the men was junior James Callahan who shot a 244 over the course of the three-day tournament, good enough for a tie of 47th place.

For the women, senior Caro Els paced the ‘Cats in the two-day tournament, shooting rounds of 80 and 78 for a total of 158 and a tie for 20th place. Freshman Annie Pietila finished in a tie for 24th place for NMU with a total score of 160. Junior Abigail Boozer and sophomore Paxton Johnson were neck-and-neck for the Wildcats with Boozer coming in 34th with a score of 166, and Johnson finished in 37th with a score of 168. At last finishing in 53rd place was freshman Alyssa Yaggie with a final total of 181.

Both squads have a quick turnaround from the Walsh Invitational to the GLIAC Championships being held this weekend on April 15-17. The meet will take place at Gull Lake View Golf Club and Resort in Augusta, Michigan. The start time of the meet is to be announced on the NMU Athletics website.
