Students and community members are welcome to attend a book reading by NMU alumnus Mylan Murphy on Wednesday, April 13. The event will take place virtually from 7 to 8 p.m. Attendance is free, although registration is required. Those interested can register here. The reading will be family friendly.

Murphy graduated from NMU in 2012 with a bachelor’s degree in Entertainment and Sports promotion, and then in 2014 with a master’s degree in Psychology, specializing in Training, Development and Performance Improvement, according to his web site.

Murphy will be reading from his self-published children’s book It Only Takes 1, which tells the story of him becoming an entrepreneur at age 13. The book is dedicated to his mother, who passed away due to breast cancer in 2019, according to his web site.

Murphy’s brand, Motivated by Mylan, focuses on helping young athletes practice at home through the use of DIY methods. Murphy was a motivational speaker before the COVID-19 pandemic forced him to move his motivational brand online, according to his web site.

During Murphy’s talk, he will answer questions about his path to becoming an influencer, building his brand, according to the NMU Event Calendar.
