The Associated Students of NMU (ASNMU) is tabling in Jamrich Hall from 3 to 4:30 p.m. Friday for the upcoming ASNMU election cycle. ASNMU is the student government organization at NMU that represents and advocates for the student body.

The deadline for students running is Friday, March 24 at 5 p.m. In order to run, students must submit their intent to run and referendum paperwork.

Olivia Dunn, ASNMU chair of elections, encourages anyone to run in the election cycle, especially if they have opinions regarding campus.

“If you just have a lot of opinions about campus or things you want to change at Northern, this is a great format and a place to be connected to the higher administration,” Dunn said. “If students see something that needs to be filled, they should run.”

By tabling in Jamrich, Dunn hopes students are able to learn more about the opportunities available within ASNMU and gain exposure to student government.

“I would love to show students that they have the opportunity to run for ASNMU,” Dunn said. “By tabling we can say this is what we are, these are the opportunities you have and this is how you could grow.”

Additionally, ASNMU is looking for more students to get involved and a higher voter turnout in this election, Dunn said.

“You’re finding people who represent you and your school, they represent student living and issues like parking or student housing in student affairs,” Dunn said. “In academic affairs, we’re looking at how classes are going, we meet with the deans, and we represent what people want.”

Online voting for the elections will open Wednesday, April 5 at 8 a.m. and close Friday, April 7 at 5 p.m.
