KICK OFF — Player at last year’s kickball tournament prepares to serve the ball onto the field. The annual tournament will be this weekend at the soccer field behind Lincoln Apartments.

Monday, Sept. 4 will host Northern Michigan University’s annual kickball tournament. The tournament is run by the housing and residence life department at NMU and will take place at the Lincoln soccer fields from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m.

This event is a way for students who live on and around campus to compete for bragging rights and a kickball trophy, but it is also an opportunity for students to meet and bond with other students. Students compete on teams usually made up of their dorm halls, houses, area or friend group. If there are not enough people in that hall or house that will join, then the whole building will be combined and make one big team.

Landon Strzelewicz is a third-year student and RA for Breakwater House, located on the fourth floor of Cedar West Hall, and has already been working on putting a team together for the tournament.

“I’m looking forward to competing, I’m very competitive. I enjoy having that rivalry with the other houses,” Strzelewicz said. “Kickball is where that rivalry starts.”

In order to play in the tournament, a team captain must be present at the captain’s meeting Thursday, Aug. 31. The meeting begins at 7 p.m. in the Maple classroom, located in the Woods complex near the Woods front desk. This meeting will be the last time for teams to sign up or you can sign up early on The Hub.

My name is Abby, I am a fourth-year student at Northern. I am studying Multimedia Journalism with a minor in Political Science. I've always been passionate about journalism since I was in high school. I was offered this position as a Journalism Practicum student and am now so thankful to have the opportunity to write for The Northwind as the new Features Editor. I've found that The Northwind has led me to more connections throughout the university and community than I would find on my own. I'm always interested in getting to know new people and what's happening around Marquette.
