About us

The North Wind is an independent student publication serving the Northern Michigan University community. It is partially funded by the Student Activity Fee. The North Wind digital paper is published daily during the fall and winter semesters except on university holidays and during exam weeks. The North Wind Board of Directors is composed of representatives of the student body, faculty, administration and area media.

FUN FACTS — Dallas Wiertella (far right) explains different misconceptions about reasons for food insecurity, including laziness, high unemployment or the economy, when accessibility is the main driver of food insecurity. Wildcats celebrate Plaidurday

The Academic Mall was crawling with people wearing plaid Friday morning.

Happy Plaidurday! The first Friday of October means the worldwide celebration of plaid is upon us. Northern students, faculty, friends and family all gathered at the wildcat statue to pose for their annual support of the holiday on Friday, Oct. 6.
