Home victories all around as Wildcat Husky split weekend hockey matchup wraps up

Men’s hockey took on their Upper Peninsula rival the Michigan Tech Huskies in a weekend split starting in Houghton. Defenseman Colby Enns scored the first goal of the game, keeping a Wildcat lead through the first and second period. The Huskies came back with three goals in the second period, though Forward Reilly Funk fought back in the third with his first goal of the season. The ‘Cats ultimately fell 4-2 against the Huskies on the first night.

Continuing the series in Marquette, the ‘Cats started off strong in the first period with a Wildcat goal by Forward Ryley Van Unen. Defenseman Aiden Gallacher added another in the second period bringing the score to 2-0 with a Wildcat lead. Defenseman Josh Zinger added another goal, sealing the third period and victory at 3-1.

Both games were filled with excitement and cheering, completely sold out before puck drop including student section tickets. For the next game, the Wildcats take on Michigan Tech at the Berry Events Center in an exhibition match on Jan. 6.

Molly Birch
Molly Birch, Editor-In-Chief
My name is Molly, and I am in my second year at NMU. I come from Midland, MI, probably one of the most boring places on earth. However, we do have the only Tridge in the world, so that’s pretty nifty (google “The Tridge Midland, MI”; it’s worth it, trust me). I enjoy reading, writing, knitting, and learning new things in my free time. I speak fluent-ish German, and I’m naturally a blonde. I’ve always loved journalism. I started taking journalism classes in my freshman year of high school and immediately fell in love with everything about the field. My favorite stories to write are profiles of everyday people because I love the intimate personal aspect of telling their stories. I am also an avid photographer.

Abigail Faix, Features Editor
My name is Abby, I am a fourth-year student at Northern. I am studying Multimedia Journalism with a minor in Political Science. I've always been passionate about journalism since I was in high school. I was offered this position as a Journalism Practicum student and am now so thankful to have the opportunity to write for The Northwind as the new Features Editor. I've found that The Northwind has led me to more connections throughout the university and community than I would find on my own. I'm always interested in getting to know new people and what's happening around Marquette.
