Opinion—Robot dog highlights issues with police spending

Recently, an article by the NY Post showcased the New York City Police Department’s new specialized surveillance robot. While it’s essential to keep everyone out of harm’s way, I worry that this technology will be used to survey the actions of people in low-income communities without their permission and are a waste of police budgets.

The North Wind is an independent student publication serving the Northern Michigan University community. It is partially funded by the Student Activity Fee. The North Wind digital paper is published every Friday during the fall and winter semesters except on university holidays and during exam weeks. The North Wind Board of Directors is composed of representatives of the student body, faculty, administration and area media.
