The USOEC men’s Greco-Roman wrestling team competed in a dual against the Marine Corps’ on Wednesday in the Superior Dome’s wrestling room.

The USOEC took the dual, winning eight of the 12 matches. Head coach Rob Hermann, said he was glad his team got some challenging matches in before competition season started.

“We wrestled very well against a good team,” Hermann said. “All the matches were close. It put the wrestlers in challenging, different situations and scenarios.”

Tellgren was able to win the first two periods by scoring the last point in each period, ending in 1-1.

Senior Zac Nielsen wrestled Cpl. Don Simmons at 84 kg and won in two periods, 3-0, and a big throw in the second ending it 8-2.

Nielsen said he was wrestling smart and didn’t force the throw that got him the win in the end.

“I was happy with match at that point; I got the positions I wanted,” Nielsen said. “I didn’t force throw, I just felt it set itself up and took advantage of it.”

During the second 55kg match, Lance Cpl. Ian Moser defeated sophomore Jason Chuszinski in the first two periods 1-0, 3-0.

The last 55 kg match was the second win for the USOEC’s freshman Mike Fuenffinger against Lance Cpl. Zach Knowlton.

Going into the final 30 seconds of the first period, the score was tied 0-0, and Fueuffinger was put on bottom. He was able to keep from getting turned and won the period 1-0.

The second period Fuenffinger won with two pushout points and some back exposure ending the period 5-0.

The final match was won by sophomore Toby Erickson at 120kg with a strong first period win against Lance Cpl. Joseph Sheffield 5-0. They both split period two and three 0-1, 1-0, to Erickson.
