After a weekend of sweeping the tournament in Iowa, the Wildcats (7-1) come back home to start conference play against the Lake Superior State University Lakers and Northwood University.

Sophomore setter Jami Hogeboom said the Wildcats are looking to continue their success from last weekend.

“Every time we step on the court we are working to be connected as a team,” Hogeboom commented. “[We] remain focused, and bring positive yet aggressive attitudes. Every team we play we learn and take advantage of the opportunity to get better and prepare for our next game.”

The ’Cats will welcome the Lake Superior State University Lakers saturday at 2 p.m. at Vandament Arena.

The Lakers have started their season 0-4, losing all four of their games at the Wildcat Open.

The Wildcats beat LSSU in the Open and winning 3-0.

The Timberwolves are on a 6-2 losing record as they enter into the matches against NMU.

The Wildcats will host the Northwood on Friday Sept. 18 at 7 p.m. at Vandament Arena.

The Wildcats faced the Timberwolves twice last season, coming out victorious both times in those conference matchups.

Sophomore defensive specialist Meghan Seymour has high expectations for herself everytime she steps on the court.

“Some personal goals for myself is to demonstrate confidence and positivity to my teammates no matter what the score is,” Seymour said. “It’s very important for me to stay mentally tough so that I can be a trustworthy player that my teammates can look to in pressured situations.”

Last weekend NMU went 4-0 in the Peacock Open. The Wildcats were able to prevail in all their games.

Head Coach Dominic Yoder continues to make sure his team is ready to face their next challenge even though the team is on a five game winning streak.

“The items for us to prepare for are also geared towards opponent scouting and their strengths,” Yoder said. “Over a season our teams ultimate success will be defined by the collection of overcoming these challenges.”

In the second game of the open five Wildcats made it into double digits in kills, senior libero Alex Berger reaching 20 kills.

Hogeboom said the team is learning strong through tough games this season.

“We have learned that pushing points right off the bat,” Hogeboom comments. “Continuing to do so until the very last point with no mental or physical breakdowns leads to success.”
