More than 500 people arrived at Northern Michigan University’s campus to attend a memorial for Charlie Kirk on Friday Sept. 9. Turning Point USA @ NMU orchestrated the event, and even worked to get sister organizations at Michigan Tech and Lake Superior State University to arrive as well.
“[We have people from] Lake State, Michigan Tech, we have gotten messages from people from Iron Mountain, far east like Eben, people from all over,” said Evan Reister, president of Turning Point USA @ NMU.
The memorial consisted of a candlelight vigil held on the Academic Mall. Turning Point showed videos of Charlie Kirk and of his wife’s statement after his death. The group also provided free food and drinks to attendees.
“We are doing a community event where people can meet and talk with each other,” Reister said.
Reister said he is proud to have a strong leadership team backing him that is are able to help put this event together.
