Katarina Rothhorn, editor in chief: One of my favorite thrift shop finds has to be this handmade underwater scene sweater I found downstate during my senior year of high school. Not only am a drawn to all things water (not only am I a water quality major, but my middle name directly translates to “ocean” in Japanese), but the material of the sweater is in my signature color: teal. The minute I saw it on the rack, I knew I had to buy it — regardless of whether it fit me or not. One of the tricky things about thrifting is finding a fantastic item of clothing and then discovering it is not going to fit you the way you hoped. Sometimes that can be remedied with some tailoring, but sometimes you just have to leave the clothes for another lucky soul. When I tried this sweater on and it fit me nearly perfectly, to say I was overjoyed would be an understatement. It was heavier than I expected but after looking at the tag, the heft of the material made sense; it is basically a wearable piece of art that was "made in Uruguay" and was "knitted by hand with two needles" out of "100% Pima Cotton". Every time I wear this sweater, I get so many compliments on it and it brings me an extra bit of joy.
