The NMU flag will be lowered to half-staff Friday in honor of a student who died at the end of last semester.

NMU student Jacob Thomas Roell died on Dec. 10 of 2017. Roell was a first-year student from Iron Mountain and was pursuing a degree in aviation maintenance.

According to Roell’s obituary, he was active in his local church and enjoyed sports and time with friends and family.

“He was very mechanically inclined and had amazing ability to turn his visions into reality,” Roell’s obituary states. “His creativity shone through his many woodworking projects. Ja- cob appreciated and valued his friends and family immensely. His presence will be greatly missed.”
