The North Wind received five awards, including first place best of show for a Four-Year Weekly Newspaper, last weekend after attending the Associated Collegiate Press’ 2018 Best of the Midwest College Journalism Convention (BOTMW). Other state schools, such as the University of Michigan and University of Minnesota, were in attendance.

Ten representatives from the school newspaper participated in the three-day convention in Minneapolis, including Editor-in-Chief Winter Keefer, who received first place for her individual news story.

“We were definitely the most excited group of people there,” Keefer said. “It really shows how hard we work each week to create a solid paper.”

Trevor Drew, The North Wind’s news editor, received third for an individual sports story. Noah Hausmann, the features editor, received an honorable mention for his individual features story. The North Wind’s webpage placed sixth overall for publication website.

“Our staff deserves this,” Keefer said. “This shows how we can compete against schools with bigger staffs, more money and more resources.”
