The NMU community is mourning the loss of an NMU student who died on Feb. 25.

Senior nursing major James “Jimmy” St.Cyr, 21, was an active student at NMU.

Before attending NMU, St.Cyr graduated from Marquette Senior High School, where he was involved in track, hockey, football and soccer. During his junior year, St.Cyr suffered a series of concussions, leading to a traumatic brain injury, according to his obituary.

“Jimmy was very loving to his family, friends and anyone he met. His family admired his many talents as an athlete, magician, musician, and artist,” said St.Cyr’s obituary.
While at NMU, St.Cyr served as a Catholic Campus Ministry leader for three semesters, was a member of St. Peter Cathedral and a member of the Knights of Columbus, according to his obituary.

“Jimmy loved Jesus, once telling his mother, ‘All I want is the peace of the Holy Spirit, and to spread peace and joy to others,’” St.Cyr’s obituary said.

St.Cyr also worked as an intern for the NMU Upper Michigan Brain Tumor Center during the summer of 2017, and worked at Griffin Beverage Company.

St.Cyr’s family will greet relatives and friends in the Gathering Space at St. Peter Cathedral today from 6 to 8 p.m and from 10 a.m. to noon tomorrow. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at noon tomorrow, in the St. Peter Cathedral, with a dessert social following the mass.

The obituary states that those wishing to make an expression of sympathy should consider NMU Catholic Campus Ministry.
